Oh wow, Tamar. Thanks for updating. I was worried, but if they'd run out of generator power I didn't want to waste cell phone energy calling just to say "hi are you okay?"
Thanks for letting us know and if you hear from Toni again, tell her I'm sending good thoughts her way.
Posted by pooks at August 30, 2005 02:48 PMI am in CA. and my wife and daughter could not evacuate from Heritage highets in Mandeville. Any one know the status in that area off 59 by the high school. Any info appreciated
Posted by Bart shacklock at August 30, 2005 03:15 PMBart, I don't know if this helps you but go to:

At the bottom of the page you can check on your neighborhood by clicking Mandeville. Good luck. Prayers ascending.
Posted by pooks at August 30, 2005 04:40 PMI just spoke to a good family friend who has a son doing search and rescue operations in Slidell as we speak. The reports of bodies floating around is sadly very true. He stated that there were dozens around his flat bottom boat. I will post more once I have more information.
Also my father is in Mandeville surveying his house right now. Hopefully I should hear back from him shortly......he lives just south of Hwy 22. I will comment more on Mandeville as soon as I speak to him.
Posted by Mark at August 30, 2005 05:04 PMMy father just returned from Mandeville. Their house in the Fountainbleau subdivision was spared. There was no flooding in that section South of Hwy 22. Trees were down everywhere, and they lost all of their large trees. Luckily they didn't fall on the house.
He also went by a friends house south of Florida and north of Monroe and it did not have any flooding either. Traffic was fairly smooth given the conditions.
Posted by Mark at August 30, 2005 06:01 PMHope your dad is doing okay, Toni (when you get back to this blog). I'm thinking about both of you.

Posted by Celeste at August 30, 2005 06:53 PMDoes anyone know the Stringers from Mandeville. We can't get ahold of LaRay and Jessie. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by justyn at August 30, 2005 10:29 PMMost of Hammond is just fine. Lots of tree damage and downed power lines. I spoke to both my Mother-in-law and brother-in-law......one by Southeastern and the other in Old Hammond. Their water supply is fine, but the power is going to be out for approx 3 weeks. No cell service available like everywhere else. Not much flooding at all. All is well in the surrounding areas....they were out checking on several elderly friends.
Hope this helps some.
